With the peak of summer heat moving past us in Tokyo, and the desire to be in an open-air setting to limit COVID-19 risks, many Tokyo residents are looking for a good patio to enjoy a little time with friends and family.

While I’ve heard complaints many times before that Tokyo is lacking in patio space compared to other metropolises, there are several that should not be missed.
With a decade under my belt living in Tokyo and plenty of experience entertaining clients and enjoying outdoor spaces with friends and family, listed below are my top 3 recommendations on patios to discover.
Located in posh Daikanyama, Hacienda is part of the Huge restaurant group offering beautiful views of the Tokyo skyline with Tokyo Tower in the distance and fine modern Mexican cuisine within. All day dining and drinking inside and out makes Hacienda a reliable go to, no matter the time of day. It is the perfect setting to impress, whether it be for a date-night, an important client or just some enjoyable time with friends. Be sure to book in advance though, especially for evenings and weekends as it does fill up fairly quickly. One word of advice, you must try the frozen margaritas, but do so with an eye of caution;).
Just around the corner from Omotesando station, on the 5th floor of the AO Building is where you will find Two Rooms. As soon as you walk into Two Rooms, you feel the executive vibe. From the concierge to the waitstaff and everything in between, their top-level bilingual service makes all guests feel as though they are important and very welcome. The patio does not disappoint with its beautiful views of the Omotesando horizon and stunning sunsets. A wide variety of delicious food and drink available at a mid-to-upper level price range. The bartenders really know what they are doing, so be sure not to miss out on their famous martinis.
Back to Daikanyama, in fact in the same building as Hacienda, on the second floor is HyLife. An all-wood patio making you feel like one with nature is a great place to unwind and enjoy the best ribs Tokyo has to offer. A very relaxed environment with a menu that will keep you coming back for more. Great spot to bring clients, friends but above all, a great place to bring the family. A special side-note worth mention-HyLife is one of the rare places in Tokyo that you can find the delicious bloody Caesar.
Hope this helps at least a few in their search for the perfect Tokyo patio, however if you’re looking to explore further, I’d recommend visiting Tokyo Terraces for the most comprehensive list I’ve seen.
